Just did the above trip, the cheapest ticket I could find was £7.25 with a YP railcard. The ticket has Route Not Darlington and Validity See Restrictions.
I used GC both ways and changed at Eaglescliffe. However a conductor on the Northern Saltburn - Darlington train said I should change at Middlesbrough for a TPE train.
1) Would this ticket have been valid on TPE on the return leg?
2) If I wanted to travel on TPE on the outward journey, would I have to pay an excess or get a different ticket?
3) If I wanted to travel via Darlington, on either leg, what would be the excess/course of action?
I bought the tickets off East Coast's website, and there were several different fares for day returns with YP railcard, and was saying "Only Valid on Certain TOCs" without actually naming the TOCs.
Thanks for any info.
