York platforms

Does anyone know which platforms Manchester bound trains depart from at York please? Tomorrow Im travelling from Sunderland to Manchester, due into York at 10.44 according to national rails journey planner. There is a train departing for Manchester at 10.45. I know its a tall order trying to connect to this but if anyone can point me in the general direction I would be grateful. Sorry if this is in the wrong area mods

Get off at the rear, you'll probably be on Platform 3. Go down the subway (quicker than footbridge because there's less stairs and it's less busy), there is a departure board in the subway. It's a Liverpool service you are looking for. It could be 9 or 10/11. If you look out the window to your right on arrival at York you may see the rear of it. If I was to guess, I'd say platform 9.

In the unlikely event of you being on Platform 5, and the Manchester train being Platform 9 you'd have a cross-platform connection.

Aren't all of the TPX services to Liverpool ex-Scarborough? If so, that would be on platform 4 usually.

Gah, Ive just realised the train I am trying to connect with is coming from Newcastle Still its not all bad, I get to travel on GC and avoid the need for a Metro bus replacement tomorrow

I was thinking that too. Any time I've seen a TPE going to Liverpool, it uses Platform 4. I've also made the connection myself. Wikipedia agrees with me.

I'm not sure if it's different at weekends, though.

EDIT: It is different on Sundays, because Liverpool trains alternate between Newcastle and Scarborough. Therefore, the train cannot use platform 4. Sorry if I've caused confusion.

He missed the 1044 due to a late running NXEC service being given priority over GC, despite calling additionally at Donkeycaster and Peterborough. NR do seem to give priority to stopping NXEC services over non-stop GC services even when GC is on time despite the supposed policy of giving priority to on time trains.

Always the way Yorkie, 1A60 is frequently held between Donny and Retford to allow 1A15 past despite A15 having PBO and SVG calls.

It did apart from the return train was 20 minutes late due to works at Retford. We also lost 1-0 which put a dampener on things too:-x

A couple of years ago, I came into platform 5 off the Scarborough line, behind Flying Scotsman.

Is that no longer possible?

(I know that the TPE services usually use 4 - it's a dam**d nuisance when you're trying to connect out of a KX service with a short connection time)

Can use 3 or 5 as well, if 5 is signalled bi-directionally, which I think it is. It was back in the days when it was 9a and 9b.

What number is the Scarborough line bay platform? I remember it as platform 7 when there there were no fewer than 4 bays facing the Scarborough line only, but it's so long since I caught a York-Scarborough train from a bay that I can't remember.

5 is bi-di, used it both directions recently!! 3 and 4 are just one long platform, 3 being the Main platform, and 4 being the Scarborough one. Ive come into 3 while a TPE has been sitting in 4.

Yes it is.

I think Jordy meant to say that only trains to/from Scarborough can use Platform 4 (not that trains to/from Scarborough can only use Platform 4).

So a Newcastle service can't use Platform 4, but can use 3, 5, 9, 10 or 11. A Scarborough service can use 3, 4 or 5.
