Please can you help me find a cheap fare. 2 adults no railcards, York - London. Outward 25.06.11 departing some time between 11.00 and 13.00. Return 26.06.11 departing between 09.00 and 14.00.

Looking to travel direct, ie not via Sheffield as it's a treat night away for my fiancee so looking to avoid an extra long journey.

Thanks in advance.

As we're so close to the departure date, Advance tickets will be next to useless. Grand Central springs to mind, £150 return for the two of you.

Hi,

I've had a look for you, at such short notice, I am struggling to find any cheap East Coast advances at those times.

The only thing I can find is:
OUT: East Coast 15:30 - 17:45 (£50.70 Standard Advance - needs to booked urgently on eastcoast.co.uk)
IN: Grand Central 09.25 - 11:42 (£30.00 PROMO - book online or at the station).

So total £80.70, but the times are not right.

That promo is not advertised as valid on that train. But you can seem to book it through the East Coast website, so I'd go ahead and do that! A ticket for that price is also valid on 18:21 from York to Kings Cross on the 25th, but that is probably too late. You can get off-peak singles through East Coast's website only at a reduced price at the moment (£87.60 for two) - these are valid on any train at the weekend. So that would come to £117 if you booked one of those on the way down with the Grand Central 09:25 on the way back.

if you were prepared to get the 0749 from Kings Cross to York ( Grand Central) you could get £15 tickets, if the offer is still on. You could do the same if you got the 19:10 back from York.

You get free wifi to on GC!

The Grand Central train looks like a good deal for the Sunday morning. thanks. Are there any good ticket splits for the Saturday to save any more please? I have to be in London by 3pm and can't leave York before 11am.

I don't think there are any more splits that will reduce the price on the outbound.

A word of warning about the Grand Central fare - it's not technically valid according to their website. However, if you book it on eastcoast.co.uk it will sell it - book a seat reservation and take the printout with you. They won't be able to argue with that.

Is 3:30 too late to arrive? There are some £8.90 tickets left on the 13:35 EC service from Doncaster to Kings X, arr 15:30, which have to be booked on the eastcoast website. A single from York to Doncaster is £12.50. There is a 12:34 XC service from York, arr Doncaster at 12:57. Total for the 2 of you is £42.90. This does give you a 3 hour journey and involves a change at Doncaster which i know you were wanting to avoid but they are a couple of cafes in Doncaster station.

You can get the £15 ticket from GC direct via thier website
