Yet another LM 350 Repainted by Yobs.

LM have had another 350 repainted by so called "Graffiti Artists", I use the word loosely as too me all they are is Vandals who should be strung up.

This is the 4th unit in 7 days that have been hit. This one was done in Coventry Yard.

It takes the ****, LM 350s have probably the nicest liveries I have seen (I am a fan on LM's colour scheme). Someone should lock these ****s up and paint all over them every time they have a wash

Graffiti Artists? That 350...No Way! Pathetic Vandals / criminal scum more like, on the other hand this is graffiti art - more artist than the pathetic awfull scribbles and scrawls most people seem to call urban art !

After dealing with the effect of a graffiti attack on a item of rolling stock before, For London Midlands sake i hope that it was pretty damp in coventry last night, as various types of graffiti paint dosent take to damp metal surfaces very easily - and with a bit of solvents, almost rubs off... Problem for LM is though, its up the windows, bodywork etc, so dependt on how many coaches have been sprayed, its certainly going to take a while to clean! = Another unit out of service because of the actions of some mindless creatures we call 'chavs' :roll:

Perhaps they could designate one 'graffiti train' where graffiti artists could legitimately repaint the unit, perhaps give new artists a chance every few weeks so more can be involved. There seems to be evidence to suggest that where legalised graffiti is allowed, illegal attacks fall because the culprits have respect for the art and the company involved. Not exactly a perfect solution, but just a thought anyway!

There's plenty of spare (unlikely to ever be used again!) stock lying around in various parts of the countries.. if such a thing were to happen I'd hope they'd use that, rather than stock that goes into service!

Wouldn't have taken them long if there were a few people with cans of red spraypaint - that red base is pretty shoddily applied. They haven't put all that much on top of it.

Probably wouldn't have taken longer than half an hour to do one side of a 5-car set if there were 4 or 5 people, and there always are.

London Midland's branding is one of my favourites!

I am not a graffiti fan at all, I very rarely find any sort of it attractive. Although, I appreciate some groups may like it. However, painting must only be done in a legal way, in designated areas.

I HATE pointless tags, they are just ugly.

Most countries have a problem with graffiti. To give the Britain's railways credit, graffiti is very well managed in this country, LU are particularly good.

That's very true. Compared to Germany and Hungary (where I've spent a lot of time), trains here are cleaned very quickly.

Living in Scotland, I must say that First (who now operate ScotRail) aren't as thorough as National Express were. To their credit, First have put anti-scratch film over every window and door wind guard on their trains, and it makes a big difference.

I agree with the others here who've mentioned security; it is known and accepted that trains will always be targets for these morons, so why on earth dont TOCs take more care of their assets?! Now matter how remote or exposed a stabling location might be - athough generally this sort of stuff happens in fairly busy depot locations! - there is absolutely no excuse for not having a couple of security chaps (plus dogs!) keeping an eye on some CCTV, and a decent high security fence. The unfortunate fact appears to be that some operators prefer to spend little and hope for the best, at which point it becomes difficult to muster a great deal of sympathy

True to an extent, but it depends on the operator. In my neck of the woods, we don't have anywhere near as much of a graffiti problem as London does, but it is not uncommon for trains to keep running around with their graffiti for days, weeks and even months after it has been applied. This affects both Merseyrail and Northern.

In London, National Express seem relatively slow to get it removed, and when they do, their trains' paintwork is very badly damaged, especially the 315s and 317s.

I Used to go to a arts place near where i live and at the place they was a couple of guys who repainted someones Van (The Owner asked them to do it) and it took them like 12 hours to do so to do this on the side it must o taken them like a day or something so how did they not get seen doing it??

I think they should be locked up as i bet this won't be cheap to fix

Just as bad is the moronic "tagging" along the track sides. Coming into London it's the same rubbish repeated every 20 metres or so. No one would argue that it represents art surely?

It gets painted over in a rather nasty brown every now and then, but nowhere near frequently enough to deter.

Security has improved at lots of depots these days - the majority of depots and carriage sidings are now fenced off, have CCTV cameras and are floodlit at light.
