Thought i’d post this here rather than creating a new thread, but is there any reason why an all-day rail shuttle can’t run between Yeovil Junction and Pen Mill?
Even if you used a 153 it would cost a fortune and carry few passengers. It would be different if it was part of a longer route of course.

Hence my suggestion of splitting a 3-car 159 from the Waterloo - Exeter service at YVJ and running it to YVP.
Q1: You'd save a couple of units, but would 3 cars be enough W of YVJ?
Q2: how well is the present service used? It's at random times, but it would give an indication of likely usage.

Which would provide a train for maybe one or two passengers at the expense of making passengers travelling on from Yeovil into Exeter stand due to a lack of capacity.

Aside from this the signalling is not ‘permissive’ at Yeovil Jn to allow passenger trains to attach.

In simple it is not provided due to high costs and lack of demand.

If you want a shuttle between Junction and Pen Mill the obvious place to platform it at Junction is the old cattle dock opposite platform one. Would avoid conflict with the two current working platforms (though would require use of the footbridge to transfer, though everyone entering or leaving has to use that anyway).
Would need a thorough rebuild/resurface to bring it up to spec.
The assumption is you'd use something cheap and lightweight, like an update of Parry's designs (what was that lightweight unit the French announced recently?)
Pen Mill would be more of a problem. You'd have to add a new short platform on the easternmost through line and extend the bridge to it. Prohibitive on it's own, but if the closed Pittards site were to be purchased and repurposed as car parking it could all be done as part of the same project with the footbridge extended into the new car park
