Hello everyone. I am hoping for a little bit of help please.
I am aware of a couple of yahoo groups for class 68s and class 67 gen and they are great for real time up to date gen. But even though I have looked many times I cannot find anything for other loco hauled gen groups. Are there any other yahoo groups around that people are aware of with real time up to date gen on this please. By that I refer to the Anglian 37s and Northern 37s especially and also in fact any other loco hauled gen?.
Also is anyone aware of anyone setting up a twitter "loco hauled" account to post real time gen to?

Cheers D6975. Reason I ask about yahoogroups is that if a new message is sent you can have it set up to send on as an email and with push notifications you find out straight away. Not sure if you can with forums. I will investigate. Thanks again.

I tend to find anglia gen is pretty good yahoo group for the anglia short set. Obviously covers all aspects of railways in Anglia Inc 90 allocations etc

Yahoo Groups seem to have gone out of fashion a bit. I remember in the late 90s, 'RailGen' was the thing to be subscribed to, and most bashers had it set up so it sent a text to your mobile (a brick!) - there was no facility to check your emails on your phone back then. I remember we'd go on a railtour, and when a gen post came through, phones would beep in succession round the coach!

In some respect I agree but for some reason something like Twitter has not taken off for gen. This is instant but I haven't really seen it for gen at all.

As long as you can put up with the abuse!
That has got to be the most unfriendly forum on the internet, they do like to pick on people who were not 'in the gang' of bashers back in the day.

Some of us have tried to make it work like that, but it is time-consuming, data allowance draining and phone charge draining (almost literally there!) so we're kinda giving up.

Not sure if @dbrail123 is still going but he was posting gen all the time for ages. It might just be Cardiff area stuff most of the time but it all helps.

There is also the fact that push notifications don't often come through, not on my device at least, so the gen might be there and you might have your account set to be notified if someone tweets but it doesn't always work! If it did things would no doubt be a lot better!

Yahoo Groups, good grief that's a bit ancient and out of date now! It belongs in the archives now...

Sounds like it's not changed since the days of another forum notorious for that, I so don't miss those days!

You say that about Yahoo but there are some groups that have about 30 messages a day.
However I am aware of the problems for twitter. But saying that I am on the "3" network and they now support twitter as a text message and they are coming through ok. So ?????

Fair point, Gensheet and UKmodernEMU generate a good few emails a week.

Just for clarification, you can get tweets from someone you follow on Twitter via texts? That's interesting if so, I shall have to look into that as it would certainly help with providing gen.

Certainly when on a bash if mates are also about but in a different area, if something's going their way I'll text them about it. If there was a central source for gen, like Twitter where everyone can contribute to it, then it would be wonderful. Not sure how it would work, perhaps we should start a separate discussion on it?

Not sure about a separate discussion, but then again it would I suppose enable to see if there is a market for it?
In respect of clarity say you follow someone on Twitter you can have it set up that you receive mobile notification. I follow my local football team this way when I am unable to make matches due to work.
It could be set up say as @nedgen or something similar. So someone sends a message to @nedgen and if you follow it as a mobile notification then it comes through as a text message. Simples. (When it works. However I believe there is a limit on how many tweets a day you can receive this way so it would have to be gen specific. And not too many. Think limit is 200 a day?)
You do have to have a twitter account though I also believe.
So thoughts?

Mine's currently set up to receive push notifications, although they are notoriously unreliable! I shall look again at it of course, in case I've messed something up.
