alot of trains ran differently today

Pendo from wolves to euston, normally via BHM-BHI-COV but it went direct to Nuneaton (unsure of routing)

All nottingham bound 170`s ended at Derby and all cardiff bound ended at BHM

...presumably via the route Virgin were intending to run their Shrewsbury - London service (via Coleshill/ Walsall etc)? That's not wired AFAIK, decent diversion route though

On a similar note, does anyone know why Virgin were operating 2x221's on the Euston via Crewe line yesterday (Saturday)? I was at Alderley Edge station, awaiting the 15.38 to Chelford, when around 15.30 a 10 car formation of 221's screamed past heading towards Crewe. Seemed more impressive than the Pendo's we usually get (probably due to engine noise <D). Around 15.35 a Pendo went the other way towards Manchester, so nothing to with OHLE? Also noticed a Virgin branded and named 5 car 221 going towards Wilmslow on the Styal line around 14.15 (was around Mauldeth road station at the time) - again seemed an unusual working? Any ideas why?
