I think it’s logical to use another number, however why 22c?

With a difference of two stops I'm not convinced it needs renumbered especially since Xplore has a simple network of buses with more simple routes and not many route variations. As to why it's 22c, I'm also wondering - seems a bit random but it could be because I recall a 22a and 22b in the past.

I suppose during the day there is enough demand for that part of Blackness Road, which has a few houses and the Islamic college on it, whereas at night demand will shift towards the Whitehall Theatre - either way, no one is really losing out (although I’m not convinced anyone is really gaining).

I suppose 22c is because 22a and 22b existed in the past, but seems odd it’s lowercase, I thought Xplore were phasing out that practice.

Also is this any competition with Stagecoach 74 service? I’m not familiar with the service but on the odd occasion I’ve seen the service park up outside Whitehall Theatre to return to town?

On the one hand it’s giving Whitehall Theatre a service again but surprised why now?

I was, for my own fun, attempting to see if the Dundee network could be improved. The city clearly has clearly changed a lot over the last 10-15 years. I was curious to see what could be changed and crucially, if it would work.

So really my question is, what do people think is missing from the Xplore network? What would be nice to have? What is something that feels crazy to be missing? Are there any long gone routes or variations that should be brought back? Is there anything that’s plain daft? You get the idea.

As a non resident it’s slightly harder for me, as my knowledge is decent, but limited.

If I’m honest I think the Dundee network is fairly good. I just think a handful of things look on the face of it odd, but no doubt there are perfectly valid reasons for them being that way.

The 6 and 23 while really limited in service, probably feel as if they ought to be. Though I feel as if the 2 could sustain more than is offered. A lack of service close to the station has always surprised me. Overall the network feels good, but I always like to find things that could be improved.

I find it odd that no buses go to Tesco Riverside these days, it’s a popular destination… you could easily stick the number 2 or 202 down there. Plenty of houses nearby on Magdalen Green or on the Riverside itself which would also benefit.

A cross city service Ninewells-Lochee-Clepington Rd-Pitkerro-Douglas,it was a well used and useful service that was stopped about a decade ago.It saved you having to go into the city centre then back out again. The 32/33 Fintry service has had a sad decline in the last few years,it used to be every 7/8 mins,I think the lack of Dundee by-pass destroyed it,the traffic on the Forfar Rd is intolerable.

Yes, it is a bit bizzare given the fact there is a bus stop at it. The 2 and 202 already have tight hourly timings though. What they could do is reduce the 23 to hourly and extend it to terminate at Tesco Riverside. Also a good opportunity for the Stagecoach 74A/74C to terminate at the Tesco rather than doing their random loop around Slessor Gardens and then to Hawkhill, which isn't even used. They would need to spin around at the roundabout then head back to Monifieth and perhaps even pick up a few shoppers! (No doubt would be delayed due to all the traffic though at certain times...)

There have been various attempts (both commercial and subsidised) by different operators to provide a service to Tesco Riverside and they’ve all failed, so I very much doubt anyone will be rushing to try again.

I remember the 14 (I used it at times when I worked at the call centre, if I missed the circulars back it was a last resort) it went as far as Ethiebeaton originally then it was cut to Sainsbury’s at Douglas.

I like the 33 at times, it’s quicker to get to The Crescent(Whitfield)than the 17! I would only alter the 33 slightly to come up by Summerfield Avenue to do loop round The Crescent then down Summerfield Avenue to return up Whitfield Drive (it’s tight going up and down Whitfield Loan)

Xplore Dundee ran a night bus under National Express maybe 5-10 years ago? It ran from Monifieth to City Centre (the route was awkward though if memory serves me right)

There was a separate service it ran as a trial, it was not under the 73B brand either, I believe it ran on Fridays and Saturday but whilst it wasn’t a night bus it only ran I believe a couple hours then off, the only part of the route it covered was Douglas to then run towards Monifieth via Broughty Ferry(as at the time personally for me was why NX were operating a route to Monifieth whilst Stagecoach covered the area)

I know the service existed but looking on Google it seems to me most things under National Express I can’t find (especially this)

Yep, they had both Sunday evening Stagecoach 57/57A, 59 and 73B. I think the Blairgowrie ones maybe even ran on Saturday evenings too

I wasn’t aware there even was a subsidy for the 10. What are the evening journeys?

I think they’ve considered it every year for a few years now, but up until now always rejected it. Think there are about 3 round trips in the evening that are contracted, plus a number of Sunday trips.
