When I try to book tickets for travel on Sat 18 Dec and Sun 2 Jan, EMR warn me "We don't yet know if or how this journey will be affected by engineering work. Please check back closer to the time of travel. "

Is this just an old message that the increasingly lax EMR info team haven't bothered to remove, or are we really looking at the situation where passengers cannot make a confident booking for the festive season just four weeks ahead because planned engineering works are still in flux?

I’d imagine that the engineering works are fixed. What’s most likely is that their planning team are super stretched at the moment, as at most TOCs, and they just haven’t had time yet to complete the finalised TT and bid to NR/filter through NRs offer.

It isn’t great at all - but it’s a side effect of massively skewed timescales and hugely increased workloads for planning teams throughout the pandemic which most still haven’t recovered from.

There are confirmed engineering works on the Midland route on Dec 18/19. Nottingham-St. Pancras trains run via Corby with a reversal at Leicester, journey time 2h 25m. NR timetable offers plenty of alternatives via Grantham to KX with shorter times.
