I had my first trip on a Refurbished Cross Country Voyager on Sunday from Bristol Temple M to Manchester Picc. First Class.

[I was surprised that around 80% of pax, including myself upgraded by buying Weekend First]

Sadly I thought the seats were no where near as nice as the ex Avanti First Class seats. They were OK at best. Strangely the interior displays above the internal doors seemed to be rather dim and much harder to see compared to normal, maybe this was a fault and not an intended change.

I thought the toilet smell was still rather prevalent around the carriage.

The seats are a huge disappointment even compared to the original Voyager first class seats, the color scheme is ok and the sockets are better but that's about it.

My daughter bordered Cross Country at Leeds yesterday newly refurbished 220021. No aircon working she thought it was about 49 degrees inside. The none refurbished set had one carriage completely locked out as that was even hotter

On Tuesday I went for a walk along London Road Derby, and looked across the car park into what I still think of as BREL Litchurch Lane. Unless I mis-counted the vehicles, there seemed to be a 5-car Voyager there. Which doesn't quite tally with the statement that the 4-car sets are all being refurbished first.
Any ideas anyone? Or am I just losing the ability to count to 4?

Could be one of the ex-Avanti ones not with CrossCountry? Or are they all at Central Rivers depot?

One did replace 007 on the 27th but not sure which as there's no allocation for it. 220002 is a possiblity as it's not been out since the 19th.

The other two there are 013 & 004

Yes 004 went in on the 8th.

220013 will be the next one out, then 004, then whichever one just went in on the 27th.

Also to note, the list on post #2037 has now been updated.

How long will it be before 5 car XC Voyagers start going to get refurbished, so from Plymouth once gets more refurbished sets, as most single sets are 5 cars, from what seen of allocations on RTT.

Has anything gone in to replace it?

Re the unit that went in on the 27th, it was either 220002 or 220029, 002 hasn't been out since 19/06 and 029 hasn't been out since 26/06

Ended up on 220007 a couple of times now. It's not a bad refresh, limited perhaps is the word.

Can someone explain what the hell is going on with the seat numbering though, unless I've missed something they are all over the shop.

I briefly saw one (for the first time) at New St yesterday. I didn't get chance to get on board as it was terminating, but the livery didn't look as utterly rubbish as it did in the pictures and the interior looked OK.

I've been on two, both standing room only so I still haven't been able to properly try the seating out for more than a minute or two!

I’ve still not been on a refurbished Voyager, have they done anything to improve mobile / GPS reception? I was led to believe the previous poor reception was caused by the metallic solar glazing film on the windows.

Certainly not any better for me!

I'm curious, what's it like riding on these trains between Birmingham and Bristol Parkway the Voyagers? Planning a trip to Cardiff that way then on to GWR for the last part.

As long as it’s not too busy it’s a pleasant run and the ride is absolutely fine in my opinion. You'll hopefully see the catering trolley too.
