170's do occasionally end up at Piccadilly (I have a photo of one at Crewe on a weekend when Stoke was shut) but they're stand ins - nothing booked for thwm (as with HST's)

Agreed, and a 170 being used to replace a Voyager due to service disruption so that a train runs, or for the service to be cancelled resulting in the next Manchester service being super busy.
