I am wondering. Is there anyone one here receently accepted a Train Manager position with XC Trains? If so can you give me some info on the types of assesments you have to do and training.

Cheers.

Hey there, I believe the assessment for XC TM's involves the usual fairly generic railway testing, with 'Ticket Selling and Checking Tests', the RAAT (Rules Aptitude & Acquisition Test [?!] - or something like that) which would involve reading a passage of text and then answering multiple choice questions on certain aspects of it, and then a group 'activity' (test) of some kind designed to identify strengths and weaknesses in your communication skills. I'm told that this can take various forms, I know of one in which everyone in the assessment group has to read controversial statements and provoke group discussion, and I've heard of other types too, they rotate that test I believe so it's pot luck. Training is usually a couple of months or so in sunny Birmingham.

Hope that helps.

I did it about 8 months ago and along with the written tests above we had to do a group activity.

You were given a list of supplies and were told you were stranded on an island and you had to decide which were the most important.

You then had to argue your case with other people why the managers and recruitment watched. They were looking to see if you were able to hold your own opinion and at the same time could understand others and compromise!

Very interesting to say the least...
