XC Query and Timetable Info

Does anyone have a link to the 2010 XC timetables? they do not appear to be on the website. The only reason i ask is i was checking times for a train before, and noticed from piccadilly there was an 18.04 to banbury and a 18.07 to bristol, both XC

i didnt know 18.04 services ran, is this a glitch?

also.. does anyone know the route trains to the South West take from New Street? i assumed it was via Five ways, University etc, but not so?

I thought that trains ran via University etc, and going to Birmingham they certainly seem to. But coming back on the 30th of January, we came via the Loop, which threw me.

Anyway, to answer the query, I can't provide a link but I can provide the information. On Mondays to Saturdays, there is an 18:05 from Piccadilly to Plymouth. On Sundays, however, there is an 18:07, which would usually run to Bristol I believe; however, the line around Cheltenham is closing on Sundays in April, which is why the train is listed twice. I can find no evidence of any 18:04 service; however, there was an 18:02 to Southampton in January, apparently.

CrossCountry always put all the various engineering works -related times in their timetables, which is useful in theory but in practice only succeeds in making the table harder to read.

Today 7th Feb there is an 1804 to Banbury calling Wolverhampton, New Street and International and 1807 to Bristol TM calling Wolverhampton, New Street and Cheltenham.

There are many possible diversionary routes, including via Worcester, Kidderminster, etc. The normal route is via either the Birmingham West Suburban Line (Bourneville) or the Birmingham and Gloucester Line (Camp Hill) to Kings Norton, then the main line to Cheltenham and Bristol (avoiding Gloucester station, avoiding Worcester).

I've done just about every possible diversion including via Gloucester/Newport, and on another occasion via Bourneville and Camp Hill (round the 10mph curve) through Birmingham New St non-stop, Kidderminster, Worcester and main line (on The Cornishman HST due to a failed train in front). Also done via Worcester and main line avoiding Kidderminster. Also gone via Gloucester and reversed.

If the whole lot was closed, it's feasible to go via Banbury and Swindon

I have a hard copy of the timetable here and those services aren't shown - it is a Sunday though and obviously things change because of engineering works.

Southbound departures from New Street at xx12 go off the b end via Church Road (University) and xx42 departures leave off the a end via Camp Hill, normally after drawing down following the departure of the xx36 B'ham Intl.

The entire national timetable is available for free from the Network Rail website - it's not XC's own booklet, but Table 51 contains all the trains on the core Cross Country routes.

XC have a 'create your own timetable' feature, which would be very useful if it worked correctly. Sadly it puts page breaks in where not needed, omits them where they are, sometimes completely refuses to accept your intermediate station entries and usually includes ridiculous connections and routes. It's not helped by the current engineering works either, one service can appear as many as a dozen times with minor timing variations for different dates.

Recently the line through Coseley has been shut on Sundays, which means lots more services using different lines, hence it might be retimed.
