XC not calling at Crewe?

My question is remaining in: Why does XC routes from Bournemouth to Manchester doesn't stop at Crewe or pass at full speed this summer 'cause all the time goes calling after Stafford: Stoke-On-Trent & Macclesfield then terminating at Manchester Picadilly.

What journey are you making?

XC rarely call at Crewe, because they rarely go via Crewe.

There are a few booked services, which means they retain route knowledge, which is useful in the event of engineering works or disruption.

XC are diverting trains via Crewe during some weekends this Summer, but without calls because they wouldn't normally call anyway.

It's not clear what you're asking but there are good reasons why trains not passing through Crewe would not call at Crewe.

Just to highlight what everyone else has said, on Mon-Fri there are typically three CrossCountry services travelling via Crewe, two of which stop at the station.

On Saturdays, this drops to two trains travelling via Crewe with both stopping. On Sundays, it's one train travelling via Crewe which stops at the station, too.

There are two main routes from Stafford to Manchester. Either Crewe, Wilmslow and Stockport or Stoke, Macclesfield and Stockport.

There is the occasional service that goes via both Stoke and Crewe and the occasional service that goes through east didsbury, but afiact this is only done for route retention purposes at unsociable hours.

It may be just coincidence that last time the timetables were laid out the manchester to bournmouth ended up with Stoke rather than Crewe as it's standard route. Modern timetable planners try to keep a consistent timetable through the day as this is much easier for everyone to understand.

The second and third train in the list above only go via Crewe to allow a rush hour Stoke-Manchester stopping service to run, otherwise there would be a clash.
2K50 17:18 Piccadilly to Stoke is the up extra stopper, for example, which could not run if 1O68 17:25 Piccadilly-Bournemouth took the normal route via Macclesfield.
Both of these trains served Wilmslow before Covid, but the calls have been dropped now. 1O68 no longer stops at Crewe either, as noted above. It used to.
Prior to Covid there was also 1V42 06:00 Piccadilly-Bristol which served Wilmslow and Crewe but I think simply no longer runs or is 1V45 running a bit later via Macclesfield.

The last departure for Bournemouth is at 18.25 and doesn’t stop at Crewe because it goes nowhere near Crewe. The next departure (19.25) terminates at Southampton- hardly surprising as it would be well past midnight before it got to Bournemouth.
