XC HST 29/01/23

Yesterday (29/01/23) I travelled on the 15:11 XC service from Leeds to Birmingham ( It started at York and ran to Worcestershire Parkway). I was VERY surprised to see an HST round the bend into Leeds station. I didn't think this was usually an HST operated service and wondered if it was because of engineering works or some such. I was hoping the RUK hive mind could explain it.

I am not complaining - it was a very pleasant surprise.

We almost crossed paths then, I was on that from Birmingham to Worcestershire Parkway! Don't know if you got the numbers (or care!) but just in case, 43304+43357

I can't help with why it was an HST, but it's a good thing it was as the crowd I saw slowly walk down the platform and out to the replacement buses was quite significant. I found myself in coach F, the front part of the train looked horribly busy!

Only found myself on it when I saw it as an option to return to Hereford yesterday morning, I was looking to check the WMR times and saw the HST. Cycle reservations made while on the way to Birmingham, a nice and pleasant way to travel compared to what was expected to be a very busy WMR at 1800!

Drainage works in the Cheltenham area meant services were split, the western side terminating at Gloucester and the northern side terminating at either Worcestershire Parkway or Birmingham. Diagrams were therefore changed on a short term basis to ensure there was enough capacity for demand.

It was a busy train as far as Brum so I was very pleased that there was additional capacity in use! if they could stick an HST on that service every Sunday that would be great

Has been an HST for the past 3 Sundays (15/22/29th Jan) due to the aforementioned engineers works...north of York and South of Worcestershire Parkway ...RTT shows services back to Plymouth this Sunday but again no further North of York..maybe HST again but probably a different diagram...keep a check on RTT for allocations, usually showing late night/early morning the day before/on the day
