East Midlands Trains 43043 paired with 43207 on the 1S51 1225 Plymouth to Glasgow (starting Totnes). 43303 failed at Neville Hill with a battery fault.

043 has since been removed from the set at Craigentinny overnight and 43305 (Virgin East Coast) put on instead. It's workings for today are the following (all being well):

1D00 07:27 Edinburgh Waverley - Glasgow Central
1V58 09:00 Glasgow Central - Penzance
2C80 21:29 Penzance - Plymouth

The legendary Kevin Kramer was on yesterday's working, giving out superb customer service, including impeccable connection information, as usual :)

EMT platform staff at Derby had a double-take when they saw the EMT power car leading.

Good to hear Kevin is still going strong. Best train manager XC have ever had, from BR, through Virgin and into Arriva. Great bloke.

Is that the bloke who says things along the lines of "We are now approaching the tantalizing station that is Tiverton Parkway?"

Saw it coming into leeds todaywith 1V58 to Plymouth. Didn't really get chance to see the VT power car as my train departed just as it was coming in next to me and as it was on the rear.

So tonight we have a Virgin EC power car at Laira, and an EMT one at Craigentinny! The wonders of the XC HST operations!

if it is the same guy i had the other week he went through the whole carriage checking every ticket and giving each person the time of arrival (calculating current delay and recovery time), the time of the next connection to their ultimate destination and 8/10 times the platform that train would go from.

Also pronounced Derby as Derbee with an impressive flourish as if he was in the grand ole opry
