XC Double Voyager services

I am wondering if anyone can tell me which XC services are operayed by double voyagers?

Yes that is 1S47, as mentioned above. Is booked a double voyager Bristol to Newcastle all week, except Thursday where its a double all the way to Dundee.

Off of Crap Country but Virgin do it a few times.

They send up a double when doing Wrexham and Holyhead services and the 15:34 out of Chester is a booked double Super Voyager with one from Chester and another from Holyhead

All double sets on XC would be rostered for two TMs. One for each set.

I'd say in the last two months i've been on about 4 or 5 double Voyager services out of around 40 journeys. On the Manchester - Bournemouth service. Seem to be common in the evenings between Coventry and Leamington.

When there are engineering works on certain routes XC will run a reduced service but double sets.

its a bit strange that the HST's dont work this route as it would suit it so much better than a 220/221.

I agree, I don't think they have enough to run on the route.

Maybe stating the obvious, but a large proportion of the Sunday services down this way are double trains - even seen a 10 car Voyager at Tiverton Parkway once.

Very unimpressed a couple of weeks back when travelling from Leeds to Newcastle on a double Voyager. The guard announced past way through the journey that anyone in the rear set travelling beyond Newcastle would have to move into the other set, not because both sets weren't going onto Edinburgh but rather because one set would be locked out of use after Newcastle!

At the very least he could have announced it when passengers were boarding at each station so they could sit in the correct set then rather than everyone having to get out of the train and walk down the platform at Newcastle.

So they can delay the train in every station while people switch sets? In an organised world the platform staff would actually do there jobs and marshall the people to right point on the platform so they board the right part of the train! The train will be booked a good few minutes at the station it seperates, that is the reason it is announced just before that station as they will have the time to switch sets without causing a delay!

As for locking sets out of use, general rule is a tm in both sets, if not possible, TM in back set as long as there is an RSM or FCH available to contact the TM or driver (i.e both the safety crit people) for assistance if needed, if its a TM and driver on own, then a set will be locked out for safety reasons.

A word of warning... I had been told that it split at Newcastle, so boarded the front portion at Sheffield, feeling smug...

...we get to Gateshead, the train then runs into Newcastle via the "Sunderland" bridge, so approaches the station from the "north" end, for the rear portion to then continue on to Scotland.

Yes, I felt pretty stupid, whilst running along the platform to get a seat on (what had been) the rear unit (but was now the "front" one)

...because Virgin got a good deal from the "divorce".

Not only did they get mainly five coach Voyagers, but they also got out of having to run the Manchester - Glasgow/ Edinburgh service, meaning they now have slack in the system to allow doubled up Voyagers.

XC have cut back on "outlying" destinations (Brighton etc) and have introduced some HSTs, yet still don't really have Voyagers to spare.

I heard that excuse once but unlike FGW, we have other lame excuses to give as to why they don''t run a turbo-sprinter as a turbo-sprinter. You'd be surprised

The best answer to dealing with XC is to live in the North and know your HST diagrams. I'm off to Birmingham later this morning on the 11:11 ex-Leeds, the last southbound HST departure of the day. So far this year I've only fallen foul of this policy from Plymouth to Bristol.
