To continue the discussion in this (currently closed) discussion:
"XC services will continue to be operated by Arriva XC, options beyond to be considered in due course"
In that post, the idea of removing the Manchester - Birmingham route from XC was given merit as an easy way of adding capacity by switching it to electric traction.
Might I suggest 397's. Give it to TPE and make it an extension of the Manchester - Scotland route. (Removing MIA from that route)
This would remove the limit on the number of carriages that TPE would be constrained to because of the Airport platform lengths. Enable a follow on order for more 397's and additional carriages for the current order.
If we are speculating wildly, that's my suggestion.
