Apparently some ticket-selling sites allow instant TOD collection and some don't, depending on whether they are webTIS or not

Does anyone know if XC and Chiltern are webTIS?

Your thread title refers to the XC app, but then you talk about sites. It is not necessarily true that a TOC must use the same IT supplier for its app and its website.

Sorry I meant the apps not the sites

In that case the app developer for XC is Masabi, according to this press release : http://www.masabi.com/2011/09/21/cr...-a-nation-of-pocket-patting-train-travellers/

Andy Cooper, Managing Director at CrossCountry said: “The ‘Train Tickets’ app will help to transform the process of travelling by train. Access to live departure boards and an intuitive user interface, making it quicker and easier to buy cheaper Advance fares, gives the consumer full control over their journey. The innovative approach to m-tickets taken by CrossCountry has made it possible to deliver a simple and secure mobile ticketing solution for customers that will help transform the experience of buying rail tickets.”

The ‘Train Tickets’ app supports iPhone, Blackberry, Android and Nokia smartphones as well as most everyday handsets. Developed by technology specialists Masabi, it can be downloaded from major app stores or by texting ‘Travel’ to 87080.

It appears that Masabi has developed apps in conjunction with both TTL and Atos, so without reverse engineering the XC app or asking someone involved, it's not possible to determine if the XC app relies on/utilises webTIS.

However in looking this up I did read that the Chiltern app, also from Masabi, was developed in conjunction with Atos webTIS.
