XC Advance fare - but no seat availability

I'm trying to get a ticket from Newcastle - Sheffield tomorrow (Sunday 14) departing at 1004.

Most ticketing sites show an Advance at £40.50 - and the forum site finds a slightly cheaper split (Darlington) - but nowhere will actually let me book it.

"We're sorry, but the fare between DAR and SHF is no longer available. Please search again and we'll update the prices." at Rail UK. Similar errors at other sites.

Is there a problem with seat reservations which might resolve itself, or is the only option a full-price ticket? The price has been showing since yesterday in every search.

I should imagine with the expected shortage of staff tomorrow they are not selling any more advanced tickets

So I guess they might go back on sale when they've judged that they can run the service.

If I'm going to end up paying £84 for an Off-Peak, I guess I should buy it now, in case (and before) the 1004 is cancelled. At least that way I will be due some Delay Repay if it is?

That's correct. Looks like the 10:04 is running today so you're in luck. XC isn't actually too bad in terms of cancellations today; I suspect the fact that Sundays are inside the working week for their staff helps.
