XC 170 at Piccadilly

XC have just run a 170 Birmingham - Manchester - Birmingham in place of a Vomiter.

Bet the passengers were relieved at that. Are there any other occurrences of XC 170's running to Picc?

Relieved at having a train that's half the size of the one it replaced? I can't imagine that can have been very comfortable.

Hmmm, sounds like a familiar situation when talking about the XC franchise

Voyager failed by the sound of it so it worked a service to Manchester via Stoke, and back again. Word on the ground is that it was meant to work back as a Southampton Central service (with obligatory set swap at New St onto something that is cleared for it) but it sounds like a very quick turnaround may have happened at Picc to make the Soton service a Voyager from the off and the 170 (170523) work a New St terminator. I cannot confirm if this is what happened though

It could have been at least a pair this time, or even a 3-car, not just 523 alone!

But it looked quite quiet considering and the failed Voyager may only have been a 4-car anyway.

A 2 car went up to Manc on the 1831 ex New St and return a few months back. It does happen, very rarely!

According to something I have seen elsewhere, it sounds like they have only recently (earlier in 2013) been cleared via Macclesfield

I photted a 170 at Crewe heading onto the Manchester line a few years ago.

Meant to mention before, if they did some quick swapping at Manchester to alleviate part of the problem, then definite kudos to XC

Not surprising. Midland Mainline operated some 170s between Derby and Leeds in the pre-222 days.

They may be half the size, but I imagine that the 170 had more than half of the amount of seats. Not that that is much consolation....!

That is what happened. The 1939 arr worked the 19:27 to Soton C. It wasn't as full as people would think. Still a few seats on departure

Yeah. I would just wait for the next one if I didn't fancy a ride on a 170 or if it was full and standing. Birmingham to Manchester is half-hourly in fairness, although if you're on an Advance then you've had it!

I find passengers are unable to adheree to reservations on Voyagers anyway. They glance at the first location they see on the scrolling reservation screen display and assume the location they saw is the location of where the seat is reserved from when it could actually be reserved prior to that up until that location.

Does this mean Voyager staff also sign Turbos?
