That is probably the reason why, although I'd have thought they'd have been kept at Longsight for the early morning services out of Piccadilly.

Well being as one of the units is going back to CR via Birmingham, you might as well leave the other one attached to it so you don't need to find a driver to take it from Piccadilly to Longsight.

1S33 0703 Birmingham to Edinburgh (2x220)
1V64 1306 Edinburgh to Plymouth (as far as Bristol only, with the front set only continuing to Plymouth) (2x220)
1S49 1125 Plymouth to Dundee (between Bristol and Newcastle only) (2x220)
1M76 1935 Newcastle to Birmingham (2x220)
1M77 2000 Bristol to Birmingham (2x220 - one of the sets being the unit left at Bristol off 1V64)
1G91 2127 Manchester to Birmingham (2x221)
Sometimes 1V52 0600 Glasgow to Plymouth, sometimes 1M58 1445 Bournemouth to Manchester (2x220)

1V64 is a double all the way to Plymouth on a Friday and therefore 1M77 runs as a single unit instead.

1S49 is a double all the way to Dundee on a Thursday and therefore 1M76 runs as a single unit instead.

1V52 and 1M58 don't run as double voyagers over the summer period, whether or not they will become a double again on Mondays (V52) and Fridays (M58) only respectively you'll have to keep an eye on XCs journey planner.

1M58 is a very busy train on a friday, even when doubled up. If it was a single unit, pax would be left behind at most stations past Oxford

I've been told that 1V64 is a HST on a Friday?

1M76 has been a double voyager every single Thursday since February.

1V52 is doubled today, 220001 and 220017 are working it.

Today would have been fun and games then; 221131 working alone on the service today!

It was an HST before the summer timetable started, but it is now a double voyager on a Friday as it is Mon-Thur, but all the way to Plymouth. The HST for the sunday services goes down on the last Newquay on a saturday now, ex Dundee. The extra voyager is required for the double set on the Newquay to Dundee service on a Saturday.

Ah yes, that changed in December I think, the Dundee is a double to Newcastle all week now, meaning 1M76 is a double voyager every day. Are both sets open - or is one locked out?

1V52 is doubled today, 220001 and 220017 are working it.

Whoops, looked up the wrong headcode, looked up 1V56 for some reason! This service is a double and divides at Plymouth. Set goes down to fill in for the HST that goes to Newquay instead.

Ah yes, forgot about the timetable change. So does the double set on 1V64 on a Friday work 1S49 0935 Newquay to Dundee on the Saturday?

I must admit though this hasn't been consistent; there are some days when 1M76 is just a single unit, regardless of what day of the week it is.

As for whether both sets are open or not, unfortunately I have no idea!

Was going to say 1V56 isn't a doubled set as the unit on that diagram ends up in Manchester after having worked 1M83 1825 Plymouth to Birmingham and 1H99 2230 Birmingham to Manchester.

1V52 is occasionally doubled up, although the return working of that service, 1E67 1625 Plymouth to Leeds, is just a single 220.

This is correct as the 14:08 from Edinburgh to Bristol Temple Meeds, continuing to Plymouth was a double voyager because of 1V64 being an HST, obviously this isnt the case now with this being worked as a 221

Just seen two in Leeds. One off to Paignton and the other Southampton

An HST on a Southampton diagram? That is an incredibly unusual turn of events. Are you sure that's where it was going? (Normally that diagram goes LDS–SOU–NCL–BHM, where it attaches to another Voyager and heads back to Central Rivers.)

It'll pass my house in about 50 minutes, I'll check and see.

It was a single 220. Not sure what you saw.

I doubt it, Reading and Bournemouth crews dont sign HSTs so the furthest it can get is Reading if it has a BHM driver and guard working it.

edit-

Eagle has covered it already.

Does anyone know which XC services Northbound from Bristol TM to Leeds are diagrammed to be HST's this Friday (21st) ?

I've looked on the 125 Website, but it appears to be stuck on the previous diagram.

Probably 14:30 (12:24 PLY - GLC), 17:30 (15:24 PLY - LDS) and 19:30 (17:24 PLY - LDS) if it follows how Fridays have been for quite a while now...

Cheers for the reply. I‘ve opted for the 19:30 for economy as much as anything. Fingers crossed I don‘t get bowled out as the saying goees !

If anyone has an idea which Saturday services are likely to be HST's on the 21st September I'd be most grateful (the diagram only appears to go up to the start of that month).

If only XC could be more like EMT and publish this information.

Just play around with the booking engine, that will tell you. Put in a pretend booking and use the select your seat function, and the seating plan will tell you whether it's an HST or Voyager.

I'd imagine it'll be the usual 0600 Lds-Ply, 1223 Ply-Glc, 0632 Dee-Ply and 1723 Ply-Lds. Would recommend looking at those on journey planner as TEW said. If a train has a composite coach B it is an HST.

Thanks for that - I'll give that a try !

Might get the 0900 Glasgow Central-Penzance as well some weeks. It does produce an HST outside the High Summer sometimes.

Ah yes that's a strange working as it depends if the Friday only southbound HST operates, and whether or not there is any engineering works on Sundays.

The 0900 Glasgow-Penzance used to be a HST on Saturdays outside the summer timetable up until a year or so ago and the HST used to return north on the Sunday on 11.25 Penzance-Edinburgh, subject obviously to engineering works and diversions which throw diagrams out of sync. From last year, Voyagers now work these diagrams I believe.

It still is an HST from time to time, it happened at least once between September 2012 and May 2013, can't remember exactly when though.

Sounds about right, think the HST now generally goes down on the Friday night, unless operational reasons mean it needs to be a Voyager. Set would then work what would of been the 1125 Penzance to Edinburgh, however that now starts at Plymouth outside of the summer timetable.
