X93 between Scarborough and Whitby

Hello,

Does anybody know of any local enthusiasts groups that operate heritage trips on the X93 between Scarborough and Whitby? I spent a holiday at Robin Hoods Bay in the early 90’s and remember seeing this service operated by Tees with Leyland National’s or Leopards and would like to travel on it again. Thanks.

I'm not aware of any. There was a Scarborough Busfest event for a few years, but looking online it seems to have gone by the wayside. I believe it was based around the town in any case, rather than on the interurban routes.

The route itself is still operated by Arriva North East; a look at bustimes for today shows the oldest vehicle operating it is a 16 year old Wright Pulsar 2, so kind of heritage!!

I remember a cracking run on it c.1992 in a Plaxton Supreme bodied Leopard, happy days!

Only the Aycliffe Bus Pres society spring to mind but don't think they do much in that way.



From the North East originally, and the only real gricer thing I do is keep notes of my "Explorer" trips and have done since 1986 (yes, tragic) so have trips on the X93, the old 93/93A/93B/93C and the 257/258/X58 (pre de-reg) so for some halcyon 93/257 stuff...

• 28th June 1986 - Middlesbrough to Scarborough (Olympian 249 B249NVN - about 18 months old), Scarborough to Whitby (VR 751 DUP751S) and Whitby to Middlesbrough (Olympian 239 A239GHN)
• 16th May 1987 - Scarborough to Middlesbrough on 6221 TPT21V - two hours on a Willowbrook bodied Leopard (ouch)
• 20th June 1987 - Middlesbrough to Scarborough on 5054 GGR402N (a knackered Plaxton Elite Leopard) and back on 130 MRP226P (a knackered Alexander T type Leopard)
• 16th August 1989 - Middlesbrough to Scarborough on 3700 VPT937R - two hours on a bus seated National

I've other trips on various Olympians, Tigers, Plaxton Prima DAFs, e400s and B9TLs in the last 30 years but very intermittently after I left the area for fame and fortune!!

Also there has been a 60 year bus on the sea front, not sure if it’s running this year

Was a couple of weeks ago… they’re back to normal route now

Possibly explains why I saw an East Yorkshire B9TL doing the WHS Plastics contract last Thursday when I went for said X28 but nothing materialised (noticed mentions the X28 had disappeared from Viscount's Facebook when I looked after I got home). Wasted trip, especially as I had two X93's in a row break down meaning I was almost 2 hours late just getting there.

Unsure what the deal is there, but 783 certainly appeared outside Scarborough Rail Station at the time I was expecting the X28 to appear (18:45) on Thursday night displaying "WHS Plastics" on the blinds.
