If I purchase a ticket from Wymondham to London Terminals (Via Norwich) does this also allow me to travel via Cambridge without having to pointlessly double back at Norwich? If not then is the only alternative to buy either a return or two singles between Wymondham and Norwich and then buy a seperate ticket from Norwich to London Terminals then?

Also if I buy a Wymondham to London Terminals ticket (Via Cambridge) can this be excessed to allow travel via both routes? From what I know a Wymondham to London Terminals ticket (via any permitted route) doesn't exist.

The more expensive route is valid via any cheaper route… thus ‘Via Norwich’ is valid via Cambridge - ‘Via Cambridge’ is not valid via Norwich.

Yes you may excess Via Cambridge to Via Norwich - each direction at half the price of the difference between the two tickets.

Thank you very much, I didn't know you could excess in only one direction! Is it possible to excess a Via Cambridge to return to Wymondham via Norwich or is this only possible on the outward journey?

You can chose either or both directions - getting the excess issued correctly however may be more challenging. Change of route is the only excess that remains half the cost if you’re only doing one direction.

Agreed. Many thanks for your help.

Is it automatically the case that tickets valid to travel via a particular station will automatically be valid on any permitted route between that station and the destination?

Agreed, that is why I think I will just ask for it to be excessed in both directions to be on the safe side. Many thanks for your help.

What ticket are you planning on using?

The Via Cambridge one but I plan to excess it (so it is valid Via Norwich) in the event that I miss the last train that will get me to Wymondham via Cambridge.
