Just saw a fully refurbished WSMR set with matching DVT and 67014 come though Peterborough on 5Z01 to Doncaster Works, any idea what it's doing there?

I have no idea what its doing up in Donny?. Bumped into it by chance at Rossington (just south of doncaster) where it passed at 12:55 with the DVT leading.

Possibly picking up an extra TSO, as one of the sets has been running around formed 67 + 2 x TSO + GFW + DVT recently, instead of having 3 TSOs.

Or maybe it was a Driver out on a route refresh.

but why send the whole set to Doncaster? If it's only picking up a extra coach then surely it's more economic to just use a available loco?

Brake-force? Enable set to run to higher speed so it has a decent slot?

Taking/bringing a coach Wembley (Stadium)-Donny involves that long lost skill called running round, so easier to take a full DVT set and shunt the coach in/out at Donny.

Almost certainly the "short-formed" set, as an additional W&S liveried TSO has appeared, though it has yet to be refurbished.

W&S are not refurbishing the extra coaches, just repainting

This was indeed a move to pick up the repainted coach from Doncaster to make up the third WSMR set to four coaches and the reason for taking the whole train is for brake force so it can run at full line speed. The driver concerned is fully conversant with running-round trains and shunting them into different configurations!

Couple of photos of the train on the ECML on my site at:

and

The coach concerned was taken to Doncaster last November as part of a four coach rake, again for brake force purposes, but without a DVT, with the same driver in charge. Photo on the ECML here:

Cheers, Geoff
