Wrongly applied easements?

I've been looking for Euston to Shrewsbury tickets this weekend and TrainSplit is trying to sell me this fare via High Wycombe with Aylesbury easements applied on dates next year...

I know with an itinerary I'm contractually entitled to travel but I'd rather not waste my whole day arguing with Avanti staff at Euston :D

I think I spotted a mention in the "routing guide update" thread that it looked like someone had made a typo in the end date of some easements.

There isn't an obvious reason why an error in the date of the easement would allow the journey to be routed other than via Aylesbury or High Wycombe. Unless Aylesbury has moved!

Can't understand how a route "via High Wycombe" ticket would ever be allowed for travel from London Euston, unless during a period of disruption/engineering works.

Oh dear, we found the data error, as well as the incorrect date causing them to apply today, there's a second issue causing it to validate things it shouldn't.

Doing a quick check across multiple websites, I'm unable to replicate the issue, though I appreciate it was first noticed almost 10 hours ago.

On the TrainSplit side at least we intervened this morning to avoid an unpleasant support mess on Monday - you can bet Avanti wouldn't accept any tickets issued even if they were issued in compliance with the data!

If anyone is denied travel and is required to pay an excess, take a photograph of all the tickets/coupons and submit a complaint. Let me know the reference number and I'll do my best to get Avanti to provide compensation.

Any staff member who refuses to honour the itinerary issued in conjunction with a ticket should be re-trained on ticketing matters and dealt with appropriately, though I don't trust Avanti to do that.

Don't spend long arguing; pay the difference (under duress), and submit a complaint with the relevant evidence for a refund of the £5.15. You should also seek compensation for the inconvenience; I'd suggest £10 would be a suitable sum, making the total value of such a claim £15.15. If staff behave inappropriately (which sadly would not be unknown for Avanti), I would suggest a higher sum.

It would be a breach of contract, which should be treated seriously.

The National Rail website also makes it clear that the itinerary should be offered:
When you book your journey online, any ticket offered at that time in connection with the journey planner results will be accepted as a permitted route...

However, despite these assurances, and the clear contractual position, I agree with the concensus that companies with the sort of reputation that Avanti have, can't be trusted to honour their contractual obligations.

This is for several reasons: firstly, the rail industry has inadequate mystery shopping, secondly, the rail industry doesn't have adequate safeguards in place to ensure employees are adequately trained and behave appropriately, and thirdly there is no effective ombudsman, watchdog, or regulator with the required knowledge, skills or powers to do anything

It appears that the issue with the easement in question has now been resolved after RDG released an updated version on Sunday.
