I'm on 168 216 with the 11.36 Marylebone to Birmingham today 22nd July and we've gone into platform 4 instead of platform 2 at Banbury.

Is there some track or signalling issue today that is preventing the normal operations?

Looks like a northbound Crosscountry service also used platform 3, but other than that it seems that everything else was platformed as normal around that time. It isn't technically wrong road as platforms 2/3/4 are all bi-di signalled, but definitely out of the ordinary

Thank you, definitely the first time I've seen it happening.

Couldn't see any track men or anything like that on the normal side.

Was there perhaps an issue with the lift to the Plat 1/2 island and a mobility impaired passenger that needed to board/alight these trains?
Or some other short-term work going on on 1/2 that means that using 3/4 for northbound trains was preferable?

I normally catch the 07.09 from Banbury to Birmingham Snow Hill and have had this only once. In my case the train departed from Platform 3. There didn't appear to be any reason - I looked at RTT later and all other trains departed on expected platforms.
I did wonder at the time whether it was driver training (have to maintain knowledge to use alternative platforms) - but this sounds thin event to me.

Hmm... there wasn't anything broken down anywhere was there? I did forget to look out to the left after we moved off.

4M67 was stopped in platform 1 and was overhanging the junction into platform 2.

Because it was supposed to just passing through the station and not stop, RTT is showing it as passing before 1E40 & 1G27, but if you look at Reservoir Junction just after the station it shows it passing through 3 minutes after 1G27 did.

Maybe there was someone on board who wanted to score the crossover at the northern end of Banbury station

A while ago I was travelling southbound from Banbury and had to catch a Birmingham Moor St to Marylebone service from platform 2.

On that occasion it was because the lift to platforms 3 and 4 was out of use and a wheelchair user was boarding the train.
