Wrong direction train lights

Hi,

I’m hearing different interpretations for train illumination when making a wdm.
I thought a wdm of less than 400m there’s no need to change lights, more than 400m then change lights.
Some people are saying because of the rule book change you change lights no matter the distance of the wdm but i thought this was just for assisting trains?
Anyone clarify?

As per rule book,

When making a wrong-direction movement of less than 400 metres (440 yards), you need not change the normal head or marker lights or the tail lamp.

When making a wrong-direction movement of more than 400 metres (440 yards), you must make sure that the headlights and marker lights are lit on the leading end of the movement and a tail lamp is lit at the rear end of the movement.

You can use a portable headlight or a handlamp if the above lights or lamps are not available.

That was my interpretation, and the requirement for white lights on both ends if assisting has been removed.

Yes, white lights both ends when going to assist in the wrong direction has been removed recently.
