I have booked to go to Wroclaw in a few weeks. I am looking for any interesting rail trips from Wroclaw. Any older loco hauled stock on the go? Is it best if I prebook PKP tickets?

Me too-and this is not my 1st visit there. Very big and quite good urban tramnetwork too-there are also 24 hr tickets. Seniors >70 its free.
PKP in PL ONLY runs the mainline epxress trains under now mostly the name as intercity.pl. IF you can manage a fixed advance booking this will be the cheapest to ride them, but they will not open bookings till -if lucky- 1 month advance and for shorter trips often even later. On busy weekends their trains may sell out-in theory/principle its all REServed. They may also still offer a cheapish midweek ride-at-will ticket.
Besides them the local trains are mostly done by the provincial Koleje Dolnoslaskie (=lower saxony), yellow sets. They offer a weekend ticket for just 59PLN (around12 GBP) from FRI 19.00 till sun late. But the trusted PolRegio also runs some local trains on other lines going out of this province.

Is that blocking the route for the PKP service to Bohumin too?
They're different routes - so it shouldn't. The route via Chałupki to Bohumin is distinctly more of a 'mainline' than the route that KD services take to Lichkov.

As per the KD website:

Due to track works carried out by PKP PLK SA from 01.09.2024 to 16.10.2024 on the Strzelin - Kłodzko Główne /Kłodzko Miasto - Lichkov section, Replacement Bus Transport will be launched.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Bookings open 30 days in advance for domestic routes, 60 days in advance for international routes. The distance of the journey doesn't matter.

Absolutely, especially if travelling on a weekend. Most PKPIC trains have mandatory reservation restrictions, especially trains operated by PESA Dart units which frequently go to Wroclaw.

I better decide where to go! Head north within Poland or head South to Czechia.

I'm looking at Monday the 16th of September,

West to Jelenia Gora? There are loco hauled services to there, from where you can take services to Harrachov In Czech via the old rack railway. Very pretty route.
