I noticed that only 5 out of the 20 National Express West Midlands were out in service today (according to Bustimes.org)

First Aberdeen had just 10 out of 25 in service.

Are there particular problems with the reliability of these buses or are there other reasons for low usage at the moment ? (appreciate that bustimes is not always 100% accurate). London seems to be better though with 18/20 out on route 7.

There is a capacity issue at the Kittybrewster Hydrogen Refuelling station which is why a lot of the original Aberdeen batch (70 plate) still haven't returned from Wrightbus. They were taken off because of a mechanical defect in February 2021, and only 5 or so have returned as there isn't the capacity to run all 25 currently.

10 more were delivered in April 2022 before the old ones returned, they seem to be out on most days.

Thanks. Any idea what’s up with the West Midlands ones?

Aberdeen has 15 of its 25 in use (39701/2/4/8/9/16-25). The other 10 have been sitting at Wrightbus ready to return since June, however there isn't the refueling capacity for them so their return has been delayed.

A temporary storage facility is being installed at First's King Street Depot to increase refuelling capacity until the Kittybrewster site (which also covers the council's own fleet of vehicles) is expanded or another refuelling station opens.

The vehicles themselves (at least Aberdeen's) are quite reliable.

One of the Aberdeen ones is not tracking on Bustimes.org, so there were actually 11 out yesterday. The Wrightbus people who are usually at Aberdeen during the week have not been there much this week, which may account for more buses being out of service than normal.
