Officers were called to the line in Wrexham at 6.48am today (8 February) following reports of a fire on a train. It was believed to have been caused by a hydraulic fault and has now been extinguished. Thankfully all passengers were safe and well.

This morning, the 0425 Holyhead-Cardiff Central service was stopped near Wrexham General after reports of a fire on the train. All passengers and crew are safe and the fire services are in attendance.

A number of services between Shrewsbury and Chester have been affected as a result, with replacement bus services in operation. We’re very sorry for the disruption to people’s journeys. We advise customers to check before they travel using the TfW website, app, or JourneyCheck page.

Does anyone know any further information, e.g. which train was affected? Thanks.

Seems like it's either 175008 or 175009 as they are listed as the units on TRUST.

That unit was allocated only as far as Chester.

Apparently there was a fire, so it's unlikely they will be moved any time soon.

I remember reading the same unit had a fire at Preston and was out for months.

Withdrawn by TFW they will be, whether they go to another operator is yet unknown.

This incident might be a good way of guessing. If they repair it, it has a future most likely.

Another 175 out of service likely means even more 150/153 substitutions than we have already! The sooner the 197s can replace the 175s in full the better.

Not necessarily - Angel may state their asset has to be returned in a working condition, in which case, it is likely it will need to be repaired, even if it ends up going for disposal later (unless there are plans afoot for imminent scrapping, which seems fairly unlikely in my view)

I regret not taking a screenshot, but TfW Journeycheck actually used the phrase 'thermal event' when reporting this incident. I'm looking out for the next 'earth fault'

But it is under the "care" of TfW as they are leasing it. Therefore it is likely TfW will need to repair the unit so that when it is off-leased, it is in working order (in a similar fashion to having a car on a hire agreement, you'd have to repair any damage before it is returned at the end of the lease) (this is in simple terms, and doesn't take insurance and such into account)

I don't know regarding RAIB but my first instinct would be no

Yes it is their asset, as they own it. TfW are lessors, and as such the asset is considered to be Angel's in legal terms.

Its quite common for ROSCO contracts to stipulate that the asset (in this case, the unit) be returned in working condition.

When stock gets written off, as with the Salisbury units, it is the ROSCO's insurers who write them off.

Normal procedure is that they take their phones out, film it and post it on TikTok or wherever.

Does look nasty certainly less than ideal with the continuing issues with unit availability the fire damaged 150 from last year still hasn't came back either

Thats what i was wondering ? Start legging it back to the level crossing or stand track side and wait for the orange army. Next time i will read the instructions and listen for the inflight incase of a fire announcements that tfw that will now be updating.

Both of these were certainly the procedure at West Malling last week

Id prefer to travel on a 197 to a 150 and ive not even been on a 197 yet !
