The Borderlands line service has been suspended since this afternoon after 2J77 1532 Bidston to Wrexham Cen lost 71mins on Hawarden Bank due to railhead conditions. Bustitution in place. RHTT ran over the route during the night.

Notoriously bad line for rail head problems even with the RHTT running.

Units really struggling over Hawarden Bank - struggling to achieve more than 1-2mph and slipping to a stand.

RHTT improves the situation when it passes, cutting down the trees providing the surface contamination solves the problem for years. No idea about the net impact on polluant absorption.

Didn't think RHTT ran at all last night. Was told it didn't treat between Shrewsbury and Wrexham then Wrexham and bidston.

Unfortunately RHTT operation is not the panacea for low adhesion that some may think. On many routes the only time it can be reliably pathed is overnight but any Sandite applied can be washed away by heavy rain. Which is the weather that has prevailed in the area today. As has been said some serious tree-felling provides a better solution which can last a few years but its impact does not always go down well with the "neighbours". It also requires staff and posessions to be arranged, and preferably daylight.
