Found some interesting return fares for wrexham-Shrewsbury:

anytime day return £7.80 (std class)
anytime day return £11.70 (1st class)
off-peak return £11.70 (std class)

so if you are returning on the same day the anytime is cheaper than off-peak (or use 1st class!)

You are getting the flexibility to travel at any time, and return within a month, also at any time with the off peak return. No break of journey permitted, however. The 'off-peak return' is basically the new name for the old 'Saver Return' ticket.

Seems quite sensible pricing wise, since the Off Peak Return is many ways effectivly an Anytime Return, since both portions are valid on Any Train.

although It might have been more logical for the Saver Return to be a Anytime Return,to standardise things a bit more
