Wrexham - Rugby First

I'm going to Rugby this Friday (16/09/11). Any good splits for getting first class cheaper than £99?

I have a 16-25 railcard though I don't think that's much help.

Do you need a return? If so need it be first class?

It's not worth travelling first class with London Midland. Splitting at Wolverhampton/Stafford and get a VT only ticket to Coventry where you can get a LM train to Rugby

Both of these "returns" are actually two first singles
No doubt someone can do better. In this case your train must call at Birmingham New Street which rules out the 0700


edit: If you do want to take the 0700 then:

0700 - 0845
£38.95 First Advance

For the return journey take the same route back but you can halve the price giving a total of £74.05

Why on earth you would want to travel First Class on the Wrexham Voyager? It'd be a complete waste of money! Very often, there is no "at-seat service" in the Wrexham Voyager - only in the Holyhead Voyager (the two Voyagers merge at Chester).

Op is a friend - he wants to travel on the 0700 all the way to Rugby and he wants breakfast. He isn't bothered about returning in first.

Another great example of the excellent pricing structure we have in this country! :roll:

A Chester to Rugby FOS is £68. A Wrexham to Rugby FOS is £49.50, and yet is still priced by Virgin, who obviously expect customers to travel via Chester! :roll:

Very unlikely, I suspect the only valid route will be on the WCML

Edit: Rugby to Birmingham group is only valid on maps TV (via Coventry) and WM (via Nuneaton) neither of which include Shrewsbury

If he wants anything like the Pendolino breakfast, he will be VERY disappointed! He either won't get a thing, or will receive the absolutely disgusting "smoked salmon tart" that makes you want to throw up!

DO NOT travel on a Virgin Voyager in First Class for the food. Just don't! It's only worth travelling First Class on a CrossCountry Voyager when the price is reasonable so that you are guaranteed a seat.

I rather like the sound of a smoke salmon tart, thats a subjective comment saying it will make people throw up, it is after all a train, not The Ritz :/ After going first class yesterday on a Virgin Super Voyager to Brum, I'm happy I booked it. The food offerings were pleasant, and identical to a Pendo, in fact better than the last Pendo I got. The TM and the first class lady were very helpful, and being the chatty 18 year old I am, I often got a couple of extra tonic waters when they came up and down. I found the seat comfortable, it was nice to be in a quieter less busier carriage. I had my return journey today in standard, and again found it most pleasant.

The "Light Bites" offering on a Super Voyager is identical to that on a Pendolino. The Breakfast offering is not. I too thought "Hmm... That smoked salmon tart sounds nice!", but it really isn't. Next time I'll have to take a picture and you can make your own mind up! When you've paid £80ish for a First Class ticket to London Euston, you really do expect something better. The smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on a Pendolino, followed by a nice croissant with jam, does not make me throw up!
