Any idea what's going on with the old waiting room on the island platform (plat 2/3)?

They've knocked 2 door-sized holes in the back of the waiting room, and taken out t& boarded up the old windows/doors in the non-waiting-room bit.

Also, as a side note, is there any news etc on the planned "transport hub" that Transport for Wales were talking about a couple of years ago?

I live in the area and saw it pop up on the planning applications list last year. This floorplan should hopefully explain it - they're essentially opening up all the bricked up windows and doors that had been storage/other to make a bigger waiting room.

The whole station should also see a signage refresh, which is odd as Wrexham General was one of the first stations to test the new signage. The new signs went up over the last couple of weeks, including two new totems.

If the above two links don't work or you want to see all the docs, search for P/2020/0372 on Wrexham Council's planning search.

As for the transport hub, the Welsh government have taken posession of the old Dickens vauxhall showroom on the corner of Crispin lane and Mold road, as well as the old Countrywide stores building and demolished both, ready for work. They have provided £25m of funding to get it done too, so whatever form it takes must be quite substantial. There are lots of artists impressions in this article, but nothing solid yet (much of the land shown developed isn't acquired, for example).

Hope this helps.

Wrexham council press release from 19th March...

Which includes this statement: "Work is already taking place at Wrexham General to improve seating, safety and communal facilities."

Thanks both, that's really helpful :)

That might be partially down to me. The signage up when they begun the franchise was alright, except some of the English language signs were practically illegible [for me, anyway] at nighttime ... the ones with medium-grey writing on a red background. Really struggled to read them after it got dark. I mean, it was by-the-by since I knew what they said anyway, but I remember emailing TfW at the time to point out the potential contrast issues.
