Wrexham General - London

I've noticed on the TVM at Wrexham General (WRX) that I can buy an off Peak return to London Terminals for £70, London Euston (EUS) £70, London Bridge (LBG) and any other possible terminal in London for £70.

However when I look this journey up online (East Coast, Trainline.) I get WRX - LBG coming up as £76. Now I'm assuming that this includes Cross London Transfer on the tube, hence the extra £6.

But surely the TVM is misleading if I can purchase a ticket to LBG, from WRX, as logically you'd use the tube from Euston? (This not including the Underground as it's not Destination ZONE U1* London ticket)

Or am I just being thick?

It may depend on the dates you are entering into the on-line booking service?

£70.00 is the current off-peak return from Chester to London (I assume it's about the same fare from Wrexham). Without looking, I'd guess that £76.00 will be the increased fare as from 2 January 2011.

That's just off the top of my head - someone else may want to check the details?

I would imagine that the £70 fare to london bridge prints out as London Terminals - happy to be proved wrong though, esp if you could film your tvm display screen.

No doubt it does, though that's misleading to the customer, if I bought a ticket on the TVM to London Bridge, I would expect to be able to get to London Bridge.

I thought it worked that if you buy to London Bridge surely it'd include maltease cross, giving you tube transfers, but London Terminals would only let you go to a terminal that was along a permitted route? (i.e. Euston).

Which is why I'd like you to video / photograph the screens you are presented with so that you can complain, and hopefully get this corrected for the benefit of others.

Indeed. A similar example I saw a photo of at stevenage, where an East Coast TVM produced the Stevenage - London Terminals ticket for a Stevenage - Marylebone journey! The TVM probably just thinks "Well, London Bridge... that's a London Terminal, hey wait, this ticket is to London Terminals, that'll do!" without applying the rule to it!

and they do it the other way round as well - issuing tickets from 'London Terminals' which aren't valid from the station you are at.

The National Rail season ticket calculator also does this - if you enter any London terminal as your destination, then it always offers tickets to 'London Terminals' - with no warning that this isn't actually valid!

Correct. The London Terminals ticket is not valid to London Bridge, either on the Underground or along Thameslink (as you would be passing Farringdon, which is forbidden).
