Would this return ticket be valid?

I'm planning on getting a train from Horsham to Woldingham tomorrow, walking to Merstham or Redhill via the North Downs Way, then getting a train back to Horsham. Rather than buying two single tickets for each train journey, would it be permitted to get a return to Woldingham and use the return portion of the ticket for the Merstham/Redhill to Horsham journey?

Yes, Merstham and Redhill are on the way from Horsham to Woldingham so restarting the return journey at either with a Horsham to Woldingham ticket is entirely appropriate.
