He has been straight red carded (obviously after the whistle but should stop him playing for a while for Argentina).
Paredes has previous for such antics. Have a look for PSG vs Marseille a few years back when he was one of five red-carded in one incident.

Argentina did their best to ruin what should have been a corker on paper & it totally backfired…got what they deserved.
Comprehensively outplayed and Messi went missing.

Messi was in jail the whole game. Argentina were a disgrace to be honest. Apart from the conduct, their performance was dreadful, and they played for 0-0.

Trump trying to linger and make sure he was in all the trophy lifting photos. Even Infantino didn’t have the nerve to try it

I wonder how far Argentina would have progressed in the competition had referees dealt properly with their foul play in earlier matches

Hats off to Spain. Bloody well played even if VARgentina was more interested in playing MMA than they were football. 20 shots with 12 on target vs 3 shots with 0 on target is nothing short of a comprehensive demolition job.

Fun factoid, beyond the few days after the release of that mobile Pokémon game, I haven't seen the general mood of the internet so united for once; in this case, united in its collective hatred of Argentina. The amount of actually funny AI slop of Infantino and Messi represented in either a princess costume or a baby bib is surprising.

Nowhere near as far. I think either Cabo Verde or Egypt would have actually knocked them out.

The world’s been denied a new meme: Trump handing Argentina the trophy with the caption “You’ve lied, cheated and bullied your way to this trophy. Well done.”

Hard to disagree with that.

The best team won. We had an extremely entertaining bronze match with "les Bleus " though!

no world cup to watch tonight - what am i going to do?

It’s a non-sport day!

In the last week we’ve had the football, England cricket, diamond league athletics, the Grand Prix, a day of rugby on Saturday…..probably other stuff I’ve forgotten…..

….and today’s even a rest day in the Tour de France

Well done to Spain for winning the World Cup, deservedly against Argentina’s negative & rather dirty tactics. A fully deserved sending off for Enzo Fernandez, not sure what he was complaining about, it could have even been a straight red

The behaviour of Paredes & Molina after the final whistle was shocking in hitting the opposition players. The only one who stayed out of this part was Messi who sat on the turf.

Wayne Rooney correctly summed up the half time entertainment, it was crap. The pre show was poor as well & trying to get Donald Trump involved in the trophy celebrations was embarrassing.

Overall I didn’t think it was a great stadium for the final, either the stadiums at Atlanta, Dallas or the Azteca in Mexico City would have been better

The stadium in New Jersey chosen as it had the largest capacity?

I reckon it would have been more work to prevent his involvement. It looked hard enough to get him to leave the podium for the photos, I'm surprised Infantino hasn't been deported yet for that.

Don’t forget the Major League Cricket final in San Francisco. Los Angeles beating Washington by 1 run to win the championship!
(Yes America have cricket)

Don’t let Messi off the hook. His attempt to get Cucurella red carded in the wake of Fernandez’ red was pathetic beyond belief. If that had been Cristiano Ronaldo he’d be crucified afterwards - why is Messi different? He’s meant to be the leader.
