A good start for England although goals conceded was a bit of a concern & Croatia had some spells in the game where they were on top. Still not liking these ‘Hydration/advert breaks’

Especially as it was in a closed roof, air conditioned stadium!
I can see the argument that as the vast majority of matches are being played in conditions that require a drinks break, it’s fairest in a sporting context that all matches have the break. Especially given the third place ranking potentially making every goal crucial.

TV pictures and pubs - some fans are "spoiling" the fun by getting text alerts on goals far ahead of the action on the big screens (there's a delay if watching via I-/x player) - time to ban mobile phone use when the game's on??
Meanwhile; am I right in 1970 (Mexico) some pubs here were advertising "watch the game in here in colour" albeit on small screens by today's standards? Think at the time colour programmes were available bus sets so expensive - even rented ones - that the vast majority would be watching in b/w? At least, if in a pub, no-one would be screaming "gooaaallll" thirty seconds ahead of everyone else!!

Sounds feasible think colour started with BBC2 in ?1967. Colour licence fee was also a deal more expensive - so not just the sets. We all got very adept at distinguishing shades of grey (though not quite 50) thanks to B&W snooker.

Joking aside, I don't know about pubs but my domestic NOW TV definitely has a slight lag on Formula 1

Better quality picture if you have a decent wifi signal, iplayer has 4k (although that wouldn't be possible with ITV last night) and - at home - you can pause for your own personal hydration break!! Some pubs might rely on wifi if they don't have an aerial, but more likely it's far easier to use wifi with multi-screens than attach each one to a cable/s.

You get the countdown at the start of the footy so one can sync the radio commentary to the picture; very useful when ITV are commentating!!!

Most pubs - well the ones that show football the rest of the year at least - will be using Sky boxes. There are dedicated trade channels which aren't available to the public, so even when Amazon held rights, they were available to commercial customers over satellite. They're normally used to provide different advertising to people in pubs compared to those at home.
The world cup host broadcast feeds are being produced in HD. There is no UHD feed available (although some broadcasters are upconverting so they can say they've got it in 4K, but it's not a true 4K signal).

Nice one. I don't know which is worse, ITV for the footy or Sky for test matches, probably on a par.

Regardless of the channel, we should have an on-line commentary-free stream (the BBC offer us either TV commentary or radio 5 commentary over the pictures) and in fact I think Sky used to do that when they were decent? In these days of cuts to the BBC I would have thought they'd be more than happy to ditch there so-called "pundits"!!
