I watched them down at Swanage last week laying a concrete pavement on the Goods Shed road - nice job. But it puzzled me that they didn't appear to arrange a flange-way alongside the two rails - maybe they did, but I couldn't make it out. Or perhaps they didn't - 'cut them later' sort of thing. It won't do to run a vehicle down the track without a flange-way - it'll break the nice new concrete slab if they do.

Then yesterday (that's Friday 3rd) they installed a 'thing' on one of the Goods Shed rails, it's attached to the rail as it crosses a shallow square pit in the existing (i.e. not the bit just laid) concrete pavement. What can it be? I guess a wheel-chock, perhaps? - or what?

Looking at the Swanage web cam, it does look as though there is a clearance in the concrete on the inside of the rails for the flanges.
