Working as driver for Scotrail?

Hi everyone. Was wandering if any of u guys work for scotrail and how is it? I found recruitment process really strange and no offence but little bit unprofessional. I wanted to knw how is it once u get a job? Also applying as qualified driver- will you need to go thru whole training process on trainee salary or do they offer u qualified money straight away? For sum reason this stayed unanswered when I asked as they weren't sure. Thank u.

Cant comment on Scotrail as i dont work them but i can say First Group recruitment is a law unto itself ! It doesnt inspire confidence. . .

If you join as a qualified driver and are nt Post Qualified (less than 2 years) you will hopefully get the higer salary however there are some companies, I think VT are one of them where they do not pay you the full whack until fully productive.

Hmmm that's what am worried bout.Cnt take such a huge paycut anyway let's see Wht they come up with cheers. At least with VT there is reasonably ok training money compared with scotrail. It's very poor up there unfortunately.

I am a Scotrail driver and AFAIK the DBS men who transferred to us started on full salary. Lots of people moan but I personally love my job - 4 day week is great and i have no complaints at all.
I agree the recruitment process was odd, slow and a bit confused but it was all right on the night!

Hi there well that is good then. We are planning to be moving soon so great to hear you happy and that salary is what I would expect when qualified driver starts with new company. There is loads of moaners everywhere I guess.cheers for that

Where are you movnig from/to? Scotrail has a wide variety of depots and work and just wondered what you wanted. For example my depot has local and express diesel work and also class 67/sleepers. Other depots are all local EMU suburban work. Just nosey really!

Hey, well we applied for GLW central then they asked us what would our preferred location be. Paperwork is done for GLW central/Corkehill/Shields but we still have few things to deal with before we get contract sent through. Moving from London. What depot are you based at? Would love to do sleepers as I sign tiny bit of that route but I heard it is only for elite and that it will become soon separate toc? You drive sleepers? How long have you been working for Scotrail? Also nosey

I work at Glasgow Queen St and yes I work sleepers. In fact I went to the sleeper/West Highland link after only 2 years in the job (joining externally). Sleepes used to be link 2 progression but these days the fact there are only 20 people in this link meaning its difficult to get lieu days and the like puts people off. Some people don't like RETB signalling either. Central is ok a good variety of diesel and electric work.
Personally I am hoping to join the sleeper franchise when it seperates but who knows what will happen.
