I'm employed full time, and I must be the luckiest person in the world.

I sleep in, go to work late, and drive freight trains all night. I love working nights too, it couldn't be better.

Before this I was a carpet layer, I liked that too. I only stopped doing it (after 16 years) so that it wouldn't catch up with my knees and back.

Except for a couple of months before my first job, I'm lucky enough that I never applied for a job without still working somewhere else, I've been out of work for seven days (between jobs) in my life. Like I said, I must be the luckiest person in the world!

Half of the jobs I apply for tell me I'm over qualified. The other half tell me they want someone with actual recent work experience in that particular role.

Saw a job on jobsite today, for a transport manager working in afghanistan wages was £5500 per month.

Nice pay but no chance of me applying for that unless i am really desperate.

Sorry to drag this up again, I just got rejected point blank for a role as a Train Presentation Operative for Northern Rail - if I can't even get this what hope is there?

It was the generic "We regret to advise that you have not been successful in being progressed to the next stage in the recruitment process..." and no feedback

Aside from everything else I've applied for, I've got an application outstanding with Virgin but I don't hold out much hope, they have a habit of letting applications run on for months after the closing date then withdrawing them.

You have to customise your CV/Application to the position you're applying for. If you're applying to be a shelf stacker, list the qualities that make you the ideal person to stack their shelves, and not someone they will need to replace, at a cost, before you've even had chance to clock in.

Over qualified doesn't mean you're incapable of doing something more menial, it means you'll be so unsatisfied in the role, that you're already trying to demonstrate that you can do so much more than stack shelves, when all they want is someone to stack shelves.
