Do you mean work placements as in a placement year for Undergraduates as part of their Uni course? Or as a school pupil unpaid work experience? Or some kind of frontline work placement for someone looking for a job?

You won't be able to get anything safety critical, if at all.

Very very hard to get work experience. I managed to get myself two lots last summer in southeastern train planning and Balfour Beatty track design. I only got those through knowing people. Before that I spoke I the hr departments of fgw, NR and SWT and got resounding no's from all of them.

What sort of thing do you or they want to do? Both on work experience and long term? There might be something this year that could make you or them an attractive candidate next year.
