How would I go about a day of work experience on a railway. Do you know any Train Operating Companies that do that? Underground and Metro lines ok aswell.

Write to your local TOCs HR department, some do some dont - the most you will lose is the price of a stamp if they say no. London Underground dont do work experience as far as I know.
