I unfortunately don't have imediate access to the routing maps- is a cheap day return from Worcester to Birmingham valid via Cheltenham Spa?

It's not valid because you are doubling back between Ashchurch and Cheltenham Spa. Although i will be corrected.

Journey planners show that it is not valid I'm afraid - I agree with Sonic that it is due to a double-back.

I agree with sonic too; anyway, there aren't that many trains to choose from between Worcs and Cheltenham.

Thanks. Can only use my staff pass as far as Cheltenham, but have a cheaper day return from Worcester and was debating starting short there.

I have indeed. The public ticket ended up being cheaper in the London Midland sale than going via Cheltenham on XC from Bristol with my priv card.

I don't totally object to going to Worcester.. But the idea was that I may have started short at Cheltenham with the cheap LM ticket.
