Worcester Evening Services

Hi all

Sorry if this has been asked before - but what is going on with Worcester services in the evenings, particularly Saturdays? It was previously an already early 22:17 last train to New Street, but now it’s been cut back to 21:24? It’s mighty inconvenient!

Is this due to the 196s being “used” for EWR and used for Camp Hill services and elsewhere?

Thanks :)

It doubt its because of this as for the standard hourly Herford to Birmingham service only 4 units are required and the service an hour later does run, it just terminates at Worcester Shrub Hill instead on continuing to Birmingham. The Camp Hill and Chiltern units should be class 196/0 2 carriages where as most Hereford (and Shrewsbury) services are class 196/1 4 carriages.
Just guessing but I would think it would be more down to staffing as to why a later service is not provided.

I can never remember a 22.17 to New Street from Worcester. In the week, the last train to New Street is at 22.07 from Worcester Foregate Street, on a Saturday the last train has always been earlier.

Saturdays have always been around the half 9 mark as the last one up, then it's around half 10 to Snow Hill and beyond. In the week there are 2 late night services, one the normal route via University and one slightly earlier that runs a route retention trip via Camp Hill (used to be via Smethwick) and the return skips Bromsgrove and Droitwich is advertised set down only.

In the Winter 2013/14 timetable, the last midweek departure from Worcester Foregate Street direct to Birmingham New Street was at 22:10. On Saturdays, it was at 20:40, and on Sundays at 20:49. You could still get to Central Birmingham a little later by travelling to either Birmingham Moor Street and/or Birmingham Snow Hill.

Last departure on a Saturday to new st as always been about 21:30.

As regards unit. The Camp Hill services are booked for 4 car sets not 2 car. The 3 ex Chiltern sets will be used for the Leamington - Nuneaton services due to a slightly different software on them. They will run as 2 car units and the only booked services for 2 car 196’s.

How are the Camp Hill's crewed at the moment? Even split between Worcester and New Street? Do any start ECS from Worcester or are the crews Passing up to work them?
