Thats not entirely correct, National Grid were made to sign a agreement that if ever the New Woodhead tunnel was ever required, they would have to repair the victorian tunnels and use them.
Dont think that will be for many years

Between closure and it being fenced off there was a spell where people would walk thorugh the Woodhead Tunnel. A renkowned 'tall tales' character at a certain pub has said he has done so in 1986 but I beleive that the tunnel was fenced off before that date sometime in 1985. Does anyone know when the tunnel was first fenced off to stop the public walking through it ?

When I were little we visited Dunford Bridge VERY briefly (probably five or ten minutes) in summer '86 - I can't actually remember what there was in the way of track and structures, I just remember all the ballast still being there. Not much help I know, however I took a photo or few, which I've not seen for years now, I'll try and find them later if I've time.

Found them. Not the best quality phots (crap camera/operator and an overcast day), but basically platforms, structures and OHLE gantries are still there, but no wires or track. There's one fuzzy shot of a tunnel mouth taken from under the road bridge, doesn't look to be any fence type gubbins at all, but as I said it's a fuzzy shot.. There's a couple of what look like the Hadfield to Woodhead stretch and Woodhead station, with a single track still there (no wires, or gantries). Not certain about these though. Have a feeling the western half of the line was still shown on road atlases for a time after the eastern side was not.
