I had the absolute pleasure to work on these machines for several years - never had any trouble,they were comfortable,and I always thought that they looked wonderful.It all seems so long ago now -

The longest trip I had on one was Bristol to Derby.Should have had relief at Landor Street (Saltley) but no spare engines and Saltley men didn't sign the traction.As I signed the road it was through to Derby,change locos and run light engine back to Gloucester.
Ah,it's true,nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Yes, one of the classic good-lookers. When you think what was also around at the time (all those bull noses, or Westerns or Warships) these looked like the future. Always a joy to see one.
