Train hits sick woman at station
A woman suffered a fractured skull when she was hit by an express train as she leant over a platform to be sick.
The Watford Junction to Gatwick service was travelling at up to 65mph when it struck the 28-year-old at Purley Oaks station in Croydon, south London.

A police spokesman said she was found at the bottom of some steps in the station and taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

She was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting for treatment.

As the non-stop 1812 GMT service on Thursday from Watford Junction approached the driver saw a person in the headlights and sounded the horn.

I feel for the poor lady and driver but dont know what to make off this, sad accident or should the person of been sick else where( i know no-one likes to see sick on the platform).

That's awful. Sad accident yes, just in the wrong place at the wrong time. You know what it's like, if you gotta go, you gotta go, & she was obviously being polite by trying not doing it on the platform, & gets hit by the train for her trouble. ad: Hope both she & driver recover ok. ad:

At 1812 on a Thursday? It's possible, but I wouldn't have said likely.

What an unfortunate accident - mind you, it sounds as if she was lucky to survive!

I would have gone in the nearest corner, but I'm sure that when you are about to be sick, you just go wherever. A sad incident indeed. mybe they need to have "train approaching" announcements for fast trains to prevent this happening again?

Most stations do have such announcements. Purley (one stop up the line) has a nice little fanfare that they play before fast trains come through, which is difficult to miss (though probably easier if you're being sick at the time).

I wonder if she was a regular at that station, if so, she should have known that trains pass through at speed.
