Wolverhampton to Euston Season Ticket - Virgin Trains

I am interested in purchasing a Wolverhampton to Euston season ticket. National rail season ticket search offers several options, most are clear to me to be limited to London Midland services. For my needs I want to use the Virgin Trains services.

One of the season tickets offered is restricted to journeys via or changing at Northampton.

Does the Virgin Trains route ex Wolverhampton or Birmingham New Street always travel via Northampton. The route map suggests it does but I don't recall stopping at Northampton.

Does "travelling via" mean the train must stop at Northampton? I suspect the latter but would appreciate your help to clarify this.

Virgin don't serve Northampton from anywhere other than Rugby. They run one service per day from Rugby - Northampton - Euston

EDIT: Although they seem to run a 2245 from Wolves which sets down in Northampton

via Northampton means the train needs to go via Northampton. There is no requirement for the train to call at the via point.

However, except in unusual circumstances (e.g. engineering work, failed trains, problems on the line), if a Virgin service is not advertised to call at Northampton then it will not go via Northampton.

The following itinerary on Virgin goes via Northampton:

Wolverhampton 0500
Rugby (a) 0601
Rugby (d) 0620
(calls Northampton 0639-0642)
London Euston arrive 0730

There is no return service, so you'd need to take LM via Northampton.

Oddly enough the VIA NORTHAMPTON fare is set by Virgin.

Thanks for the help, I guess the fare was too good to be true.

The VT network map shows all their ex WVH services going via Northampton which is what made me hopeful.
